Call for papers for the Special Issue titled NEW DAY STARTS IN THE DARK: VISION FOR THE POST-PANDEMIC BRICS EDUCATION.
In alignment with the focus and scope of the Journal Space and Culture, India, the proposed special edition aims to address a contemporary educational issue and stimulate much needed conversation about a vision for the post-pandemic BRICS Education. Providing space for dialogue and intellectual exchange on this topic is not only imperative but also timely.
2020 marked a time of crisis that affected all social sectors including higher education research, teaching practice, management, and most institutional operations. The global pandemic exposed higher education institutions (HEIs) to many challenges pointing out vulnerabilities, highlighting social inequalities and a growing gap between the economically privileged and those who struggle to access quality education. Beyond a doubt, Covid-related circumstances brought into question the very nature of higher education and its role within society. However, the stormy time of the pandemic also presented an opportunity to re-evaluate past practices, revisit education strategic plans, and re-envision a more inclusive future. On one hand, we know that HEIs showed ability to change and rapidly adapt to remote teaching and researching. On the other hand, many HEIs were not prepared to respond to the restrictions posed by the pandemic. Although many strategies were put in place, inequalities in access to digital technologies and online learning are immense, which will further affect social disparities in BRICS and beyond.
As stated by Friedrich Nietzsche chaos gives birth to dancing stars. We cannot afford to wait for the crisis to fully pass and passively follow steps prescribed by others to go back to so called ‘normal’. There is an urgent need for proactivity and courage not only to rebuild the plane while flying but also to implement upgrades. Although the response of HEIs to the crisis is commendable, the need for transformations will only accelerate.
This special edition is dedicated to critically explore the path from the crisis to clarity and a better future of research and teaching in HEIs. The time is ripe to make sense of the current landscape and ongoing shifts with the intention to zoom our attention on the next steps to build back better. This special issue aims to provide a space for scholars from all disciplines to share how they envision the move forward based on the lessons learned and reflections made about new directions for research, teaching, and overall academic practice. It is of paramount importance that we frame the narrative for the future with focus on thriving as opposed to surviving.
As we know, the social problems are territorially blind, meaning that no one country has a sufficient knowledge and capacity to solve challenges on their own. This Special Issue offers an opportunity for a unified effort and collective thinking of BRICS member states to explore the proposed theme and propose post-pandemic plans to prosper.
The topics may include, however are not limited to:
- New ways of maintaining the quality and depth of engagement in online teaching
- Transformations in teaching, learning and assessment
- Transformative approaches to training and professional development for digital literacy
- Development strategies in research, research productivity and research ethics
- New ways of virtual connectedness, collaborations, and sustainable partnerships
- New models of flexibility, accessibility, and affordability to education
- Emerging dimensions of postgraduate supervision
- New roles and identities of academics and students
- Management and leadership trajectories
- New funding models for universities
Authors are invited to submit a manuscript by 15 July prepared according to the journal author guidelines: https://spaceandculture.in/index.php/spaceandculture/about/submissions.
IMPORTANT SUBMISSION INFORMATION:
- The manuscripts to be submitted by 15 July 2022, via the journal portal https://spaceandculture.in/
- Submissions that do not conform to the journal’s style will not be considered
- No late submissions will be accepted
- Provide a confirmation letter that the submitted manuscript was proofread/edited
- In order to follow an anonymous review process, no author details may be visible in the manuscript itself, author(s) details should be indicated on the submission in the system
PLEASE NOTE:
- Publication of the issue is scheduled for the month of March 2023
- Author(s) of accepted for publication articles will be asked to pay a processing fee as indicated on the website
