BRICS will cooperate with other countries regardless of whims of certain states — Lavrov

MOSCOW, February 1. The cooperation of BRICS with interested countries won’t depend on the whims of certain governments including the US, which is abusing its monopoly in the system of globalization, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said in an interview with RT Arabic that was published on the ministry’s website on Wednesday.

"We are promoting not only theoretical, conceptual agreements that should determine the parameters and criteria for admitting new members, but also developing in parallel practical cooperation with those who are interested in this," the minister said. "We must find a format that will reflect the legitimate interests of these states in promoting, together with BRICS, the principles of justice and democracy in international political and economic relations. The structures of future cooperation will not depend on the whim of only one group of countries, especially one sovereign, as is the case with the United States, which grossly abuses the role of the dollar in the international monetary and financial system and its other monopoly positions, which for many years were built under the slogan of globalization."

Lavrov said Washington for the sake of "momentary motives" in foreign policy and the realization of imperial ambitions, "can overnight abandon the principles of market freedom and fair competition, the presumption of innocence and much more, which for many decades was promoted as the fundamental foundations of the very globalization where everyone was pushed to embrace with so much effort."

"Now the US is trying to abuse its monopoly position. BRICS reflects a deep trend of countering such injustice and building mechanisms that help get rid of the harmful dependence on the tools of those who think about their own benefit to the detriment of the interests of others," the minister said.
